India has consistently had an incredibly upbeat history of visual depiction, from fluorescent painted signs promoting merchandise on the walls of the smallest towns, to the 1950s practice of auto-rickshaw owners adorning their vehicles in everything from flowers, birds, and even well known entertainers.
The shortage of global presentations by Indian craftsmen in no way reflects reality. India’s thriving art world is growing fast—and the strength of Indian art will only grow. Prices for contemporary artwork are reaching millions of pounds at auctions. The most renowned artists in India are still innovator pioneers like Gaitonde, Souza and Mehta. Their fine art is among the most costly Indian artistic creations sold at auction.
From photography and film, to even mixed-media art, the following artists have created stand-apart work that merit their due awards.
